1. Are library cards free?

The first card is free, but if you need to replace it, there is a $3.00 charge

2. Where can I use my library card?

You can use your card at any of the Davidson County Libraries (Lexington, Thomasville, Denton, North Davidson, and West Davidson). Library cards can be obtained by visiting any of our locations and providing proof of address.

3. How do I get a library card?

Any county
or state resident or county property owner applying for a library card should present
a photo ID. If the ID does not have the current address, the applicant must
show proof of current address (examples: 
utility bill, signed lease, piece of canceled mail). The card is free
for those who do not already have an account and $3 for a replacement card.

4. How long can I keep library materials?

Most items
check out for 28 days. Exceptions include DVDs (7 days), new items (14 days)
and other specially marked materials.

5. How can I use a computer?

Library card
holders over the age of 18 and ages 11-18 with signed parent permission can use
a public computer by simply inputting their library card number in the barcode
field on any public computer and then agreeing to terms and conditions. Those
without a library card can receive a guest pass at the reference desk after
showing a photo ID. Unsettled charges on Davidson County Public Library or NC
Cardinal Consortium accounts can prevent patrons from access to public
computers.

 

6. How can I get an item at another location?

Library card
holders can request items at any Davidson County branch as well as items from
library systems participating in the NC Cardinal consortium. See a library

7. How many holds can I place?

Account
holders can place a total of 25 holds on books and audiobooks and seven on
videos.

8. What’s my PIN?

Unless a
patron specifies otherwise, the PIN or Personal Identification Number for most
account holders defaults to the last four digits of that person’s primary phone
number.

9. How do I check out an e-book?

The process
for checking out an e-book from the North Carolina Digital Library and the NC
Kids Digital Library differs
according to device. Please visit here for information specific to your device.

10. How can I download free music?

Visit the Freegal web site and log in using the
library card number and PIN. Check your app store to download the Freegal app
for use on your mobile device.

 

11. How can I reserve space in the library for my community group?

Please
contact the branch where you would like to reserve space to determine room
availability and to obtain and sign a copy of our meeting room policy. Those
using library meeting rooms must agree to the terms and conditions as stated in
the Davidson County Public Library meeting room policy.
